About the Practitioner

Jane Kordish, BA, AA, AS, LMT (MA64793), CIPI, CKTP

While earning my Associate of Science in Massage Therapy from Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, CA, I found a mentor in my clinical massage instructor and I also found a great passion for Clinical Massage. While at MPC I took courses in Swedish Massage, Sports Massage, Kinesiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Yoga, and Nutrition, among others. I simultaneously studied additional modalities such as Thai Massage, Myofascial Release, Chair Massage, and La Stone Hot and Cold Stone Therapy Massage at the Monterey Institute of Touch in Carmel, CA. After receiving my degree, I continued with advanced studies at the San Francisco School of Masssage & Bodywork where I took courses in Deep Tissue Massage and Myofascial Release with Art Riggs, Trigger Point Release Therapy with Dr. Eric Rubin, and Ortho-Bionomy with Jim Berns. I also studied Experiential Anatomy with John Michael Doyle.

I have continued to take workshops throughout my career including Trager training with Deane Juhan (author of Job's Body), Anatomy Trains, Feldenkrais Method, AIS with Aaron Mattes, and Kinesiotaping among many others. In 2016 I completed a Sports Massage Internship at the Central Florida School of Massage Therapy working with the student athletes at the University of Central Florida.

I became a Certified Injury Prevention Instructor in 2012 and for five years taught Save Your Hands Injury Prevention & Ergonomics for Manual Therapists workshops in Florida and throughout the country. "SYH shows therapists how to recognize risk factors for injury, use proven prevention techniques to increase comfort and safety at work, and practice comprehensive self-care so they can protect and prolong their careers."

I came to massage and bodywork first as a client, finding that I could work out longer and harder when I received regular quality bodywork. I am challenged every day to help my clients take better care of themselves and I see massage and bodywork as just one aspect of maintaining overall optimal health. I never cease to be amazed by the people I work with and am grateful for the opportunities that constantly come my way. I became an instructor after an injury almost ended my career and I realized the need for therapists to have the best tools possible to take care of themselves.

As a veteran I have enjoyed volunteering at the MacDill Air Force Base Health & Wellness Center since 2011, providing complimentary chair massage for all active duty and reserve personnel, retirees, civilian employees, international service members, and their family members. Educating the military community on the benefits of massage therapy is something I am passionate about. I also serve as the Community Relations chair for my chapter of the FSMTA, with whom I coordinated Caring Hands Support Our Troops 2013 and 2014 at the HAWC and Caring Hands Support Special Operations Forces and Their Families 2017 and 2018. These ambitious events showcase 12 different modalities of massage and bodywork for Massage Therapy Awareness Week and have reached hundreds from the military community. I have also coordinated massage therapy support for multiple training events in the USSOCOM Care Coalition's Wounded Warrior Athletic Reconditioning Program, the 6th Mission Support Group Olympics, as well as the 6th Medical Group Employee Appreciation Week, Harbor Bay Military Resident Appreciation Days, and MacDill Officers' Spouses' Club events. In June 2015 I volunteered at the Department of Defense Warrior Games in Quantico, Virginia as a sports massage therapist for athletes from all 4 services and the British team In 2016 and 2017 I was the sports massage therapist for Team Army at the DoD Warrior Games at West Point and and Chicago, and in 2018 the sports massage therapist for Team SOCOM at the Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, CO.

In 2016 I enjoyed volunteering as a sports massage therapist for the U.S. Olympic Trials Track & Field in Eugene, OR and the U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon in Los Angeles, CA as part of a multi-discipline team of massage therapists, chiropractors and physical therapists. In 2018 I also volunteered for the USA Track & Field Outdoor National Championships in Des Moines, IA, the USA Track & Field Masters in Spokane, WA, as well as the AVP Professional Beach Volleyball Tournament in Manhattan Beach, CA.

In 2015 I began as a Red Cross Volunteer at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD as the very first licensed massage therapist to offer services there. Working in partnership with the doctors and staff of the Trauma Recovery Program in Continuing Psychiatry, we were able to reach many patients as well as care providers with educated touch. The benefits have been outstanding. Also in 2015 I began traveling to DOD camps throughout the United States for Triathlon, Golf, Multi-Sport, and Swimming as part of the coaching team supporting the Wounded Warrior Athletic Reconditioning Program athletes of USSOCOM, the Marine Corps, the Army, and the Air Force.

I am a member of ABMP and AMTA, as well as the Sports Massage & Chair Massage Teams of the Florida State Massage Therapy Association-Tampa Bay Chapter. For 2013-2015 I am the extremely grateful recipient of the Sports Massage Therapist of the Year award for the Tampa Bay Chapter. In February of 2016 I was voted LMT of the Year for the Tampa Bay Chapter of the FSMTA.

As a lifelong amateur athlete (very amateur) I enjoy just about all outdoor activity: hiking, swimming, and mountain biking, as well as restorative yoga.
